When I arrived in Amsterdam I thought I took the wrong exit, because I saw the Dutch Microsoft headquarter buildings right next to the conference hotel! (I haven't seen any Microsoft representative during the event, at least not in public). Maybe they were afraid to listen to the talk of Jon "Maddog" Hall, the Executive Director of Linux International.

During the day a lot of talks were given, and some companies presented their Linux Solutions.

The small server of Celestix Networks was one of things that got a lot of attention, because it's very small. You can see it on the picture, next to a pencil and a small bottle. I hope to have one myself in the next week. The version demonstrated at the event was sold before the event was over, and will be next to some books in the living room of a Linux enthousiast.

Another Linux device that got a lot of attention was my own Agenda VR3 developer edition. Jon "Maddog" Hall had the H2O consumer version during his keynote as one of the examples of the scalability of Linux.

He can talk very enthusiastic of all the advantages of Linux

The presentation was a good summary of what Linux is all about. The most important features that Linux has were presented to the audience, which ranged from Debian developers to managers which were interested by the attention that Linux has got during the last couple of years. Most of them were very impressed after the talk, because Jon pointed the strong features of Linux, thereby comparing it most of the time to Windows. At the end the scalability was given attention by a lot of examples of how you can build a super computer (called a Beowulf cluster) out of old or inexpensive hardware, to the wrist watch of IBM.

Because I didn't attend all talks, I can't give you a summary of most talks. If other people have summaries of those, or the material that was used during the presentations, I would like to add them to the information presented above.

They sold a CDROM with the latest stable Debian version of Linux, which costs only one guilder!

For me personally it was a nice event to look which Linux Solutions are available in the Netherlands, and to promote my own company which develops technical software in C and C++ on the Linux and UNIX platform.
